With God, every day can be January 1st

The beginning of the year is an exciting time. You can literally turn the page to a time that you’ve never lived before. The past can’t be changed, but the present is full of opportunities to do what we haven’t been able to do before.

Losing weight, eating better, making exercise a habit that lasts longer than a few weeks…:) Quitting smoking, getting sober…

A new year can be a clean slate, the perfect time to get something new off the ground, something you can be proud of, something you won’t end up regretting.

New Year’s resolutions are notorious for not sticking. Big changes are a lot of work, requiring physical, emotional and mental shifts. A lot of times, we start very enthusiastically, burn out quickly, and give up the ghost shortly thereafter. 🙂

Bring God into your plans to change. God can give you strength and help you persevere when the hard parts come.

In Isaiah, Chapter 40, verses 28-31, it is written: Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. [NIV Bible]

“Hoping in the Lord” means that you are looking to God for His help. God will renew your strength as you trust Him to help you change. Instead of relying only on your will power and determination, include God this time.

How is this done? First things first, you have to believe in God. God can’t help you if you question His existence. He’s really there, and He can work through you and take you farther than you’ve ever gotten on your own! Pray, telling God plainly what you want to do differently. Ask Him to give you His strength. Tell Him that you trust Him to work on your behalf. Put your concerns in the hands of God, and see real change happen in your life!
