Jesus is the Good Shepherd

In John Chapter 10,

Jesus says, “Truly, truly I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him because they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.

So Jesus said to them again,

Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it up again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.” [NASB Bible]

Come to God now, in the middle of this uncertainty. He knows you by name. You are not a mystery to God. He chose to create you.

You don’t have to be bound by what you have believed in the past. You can take a step in a different direction now.

It takes two things to start knowing God. Talk to Him and read the Bible.

God is…

God, the Lord Almighty, God the Father

Jesus Christ, the Word of God, the Lamb of God, the Son of God

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God, the Counselor

Father, Son and Holy Spirit combine together to form God.

God the Father is the Lord Almighty.

In Isaiah Chapter 45, verses 18-19, it is written:

For this is what the Lord says–He Who created the heavens, He is God; He Who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited–He says, “I am the LORD, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob’s descendants, ‘Seek Me in vain.’ I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.” [NIV Bible]

Jesus is the Son of God the Father.

In John Chapter 1, verses 1-3, it is written:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. [NASB Bible]

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.

In John Chapter 14, verses 16-17, it is written:

Jesus says, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” [NASB Bible]

In John Chapter 5, verse 24

Jesus says, “Truly, truly I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him Who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.” [NASB Bible]

In Matthew Chapter 11, verses 27-30

Jesus says, “All things have been committed to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” [NIV Bible]

In Matthew Chapter 6, verse 1-4

Jesus says, ” Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father Who is in heaven. So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father Who sees what is done in secret will reward you. [NASB Bible]

In Revelation Chapter 3, verse 20

Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” [NASB Bible]

Only God is God

In Isaiah, Chapter 44, verses 4-6 it is written:

Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and His Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:

I am the first and I am the last, And there is no other God besides Me. [NASB Bible]

Isaiah, Chapter 46, verses 5-9: [The Lord Almighty says,]

“With whom will you compare Me or count Me equal?

“To whom will you liken Me that we may be compared?

“Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it. They lift it to their shoulders and carry it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands.

“From that spot it cannot move. Even though someone cries out to it, it cannot answer. It cannot save them from their troubles.

“Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago;

“I am God, and there is no other;

I am God, and there is none like Me.” [NIV Bible]

Jesus comes back from the dead

In Mark Chapter 16, verses 1-8: When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, and Salome brought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb? ” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.

As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen!”

See the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.”

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” He said. They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshiped Him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see Me.”

Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some doubted.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.

Go Ye therefore, and teach all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the

Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever

I have commanded you:

And, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

Jesus predicts His own death and resurrection

In Matthew, Chapter 20, verses 17-19, Jesus tells His disciples that He will be arrested and condemned to death.

Now, as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn Him to death and will turn Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day, He will be raised to life!” [NIV Bible]

And in Mark, Chapter 8, verse 31, He [Jesus] then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again. [NIV Bible]

Jesus died to save our eternal lives

Jesus is part of three persons Who together are God. God the Father, the Lord Almighty; Jesus Christ, His Son; and the Holy Spirit, the very Spirit of God. These Three are the One and the only true God.

In 1st John, Chapter 5, verse 7: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word [Jesus] and the Holy Ghost: And these three are One. [King James Bible]

We were created by God. We are human. God doesn’t sin, but we do. Sin is a fact of our lives, and there are consequences. Sin affects our lives and the lives of people we love. Sin is destructive, and we don’t always see the pain it causes.

God is holy, and He cannot unite Himself with sin. This was a dilemma, because everyone who is human sins. God Himself provided the solution.

A sacrifice of blood was required by the Father for our sins to be forgiven. This sacrifice had to be sinless and perfect. The sacrifice was Jesus Himself.

Jesus, Who was fully human and also fully God, was crucified to atone for our sins. Jesus saved us by carrying the load of the sins of all people into His own death.

In Romans, Chapter 5 verses 8-10 it is written: But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him! For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! [NIV Bible]

Psalm 136 verses 1-9 [NASB] Bible

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Give thanks to the God of gods, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.

To Him Who alone does great wonders, For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

To Him Who made the heavens with skill, For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

To Him Who spread out the earth above the waters, For His lovingkindness is everlasting;

To Him Who made the great lights, For His lovingkindness is everlasting:

The sun to rule by day, For His lovingkindness is everlasting,

The moon and stars to rule by night, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Psalm 97, Verses 1-9

The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.

Clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.

Fire goes before Him and consumes His foes on every side.

His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles.

The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.

The heavens proclaim His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory.

All who worship images are put to shame,

those who boast in idols–worship Him, all you gods!

Zion hears and rejoices and the villages of Judah are glad because of Your judgments, O Lord.

For You, O Lord, are the Most High over all the earth;

You are exalted far above all gods.

[NIV Bible]
